Artist Talk by Scott Myles
Saturday 2nd August (from 2.00pm)

We would like to invite you to an Artist Talk by Scott Myles on Saturday the 2nd of August at 2pm. This event marks the 2nd rotation of the presentation of new work in print commissioned by the Scottish Print Network and Below another sky.

Scott Myles’ conceptually-based practice encompasses sculpture, installation, painting and print. His work is underpinned by an interest in language, linguistic play and dichotomy and represents a complex network of responses to social and physical infrastructures of all kinds.

Myles has produced a significant body of work in print. One recent example involved scaled-up facsimiles of ELBA branded manilla document folders (first exhibited at Glasgow Print Studio in 2010). These screenprinted paper sculptures embody the way in which the artist layers allusions in his work to art lineage, social and economic history and autobiography. Myles uses folders in his studio to archive research papers and the scaled-up ELBA series match in width the height of the artist suggesting a performative aspect to the sculptures, in the form of containers the artist could conceivably lay down inside. Dominic Paterson has written recently about Myles’ dualistic approach to art making: ‘(Myles) uses screen printing to approximate both a readymade form redolent of desk work (and perhaps therefore of conceptual art), and mechanically applies a screen printed gestural brushstroke, the supposed mark of spontaneous manual creativity’.

As part of the Below another sky residency programme Myles visited India and Bangladesh in October 2013. This was his first visit to these countries and he was able to work in a number of cities during this trip. Building upon this research visit, Myles is currently developing new work in print with Peacock Visual Arts.

If you can join us, please RSVP by 5.00pm on Friday 1st August to make sure your place is reserved. We look forward to seeing you then.

28th June - 17th August 2014

As part of Generation: 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland, Glasgow Print Studio is delighted to present Meaning Inc., an exhibition of new and recent work from Glasgow based artist Michael Fullerton featuring portraits of figures “who embody political commitment or represent strong ideological positions.” Meaning Inc. expands the artist’s ongoing investigation of media, technology, and justice with an exhibition that questions the social or civic relevance of art in the age of information and mass media.
