Glasgow Print Studio is pleased to present the third in our series of exhibitions featuring the outstanding work of four well respected Royal and Royal Scottish Academicians.

Marian Leven RSA

Marian Leven's paintings are concerned with Scottish landscape and seascape, an expression of the harmony, balance and emotional interaction experienced through remembered, mythical and historic associations. Images for her paintings are collected in the landscape and in the studio the recollection moves into interpretation and metaphor.

Hughie O'Donoghue RA

Hughie O'Donoghue's method is derived from a knowledge and understanding of the methods of both abstract and figurative painters of the past which he attempts to synthesise in his own work. This respect for the historic methods of making art has led to O'Donoghue being praised not only for his painting skills, but also his emphasis on the importance of draughtsmanship in the making of a painting.

Barbara Rae RSA RA

Barbara Rae chooses to visit key places that provide her with first-hand insight into an area's specific social history. Her studies range from an ancient standing stone in Scotland to black blasted vines terraced on a Spanish hillside. She travels the world in search of inspiration. Through the varied use of bold composition, strong contrast and richly textured painted and collaged surfaces she evokes a memorable atmosphere in all of her work.

Emma Stibbon RA

Drawing is at the heart of Emma Stibbon's practice and she has travelled widely. Her interest in location is often triggered by instability in our environment. Emma records her responses to the physical appearance and psychological impact of natural and built environments. Working from sketches and photographic records, Emma creates stark, monochrome, often large-scale works on paper.
