Andreas Behn-Eschenburg
Glasgow Print Studio Ground Floor Gallery
Exhibition Runs: Saturday 9th April - Sunday 1st May
Preview: Friday 8th April 2016
The process, production and the material are central to Andreas Behn-Eschenburg's work. The artist often creates compositions of juxtaposing bright colours and shapes combined with painterly gestures. These gestures reflect on themselves and the work becomes about the material and process.
Andreas is interested in investigating the artists agency and in deconstructing the traditions of painting in to elements that are then reassembled in other media as an installation within a space. Investigating art making, the studio or the surroundings play a large role in his work. They inform and dictate the work being created to some extent, but also function as a neutral place for experimentation. This experimentation and the subsequent documentation becomes a driving element in a finished work.
Motifs in Andreas' work repeat themselves so that individual paintings, prints and sculptures act as elements within an installation. These elements that occupy a space allow the architecture of the gallery to form part of the work. Andreas seeks to extend the frame of the artwork into the gallery by showing work that is tied closely together and by letting the viewer move around within the multiple dimensions of his work.
Andreas Behn-Eschenburg graduated from Painting and Printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art in 2014.
