Exhibition Runs: 08 March - 31 March 2019
Preview: Thursday 07 March 2019, 6pm - 8pm (Trongate 103 1st Thursday)
Born in Glasgow, Bobby Johnstone studied Fine Art at the Central School of Art and Design, and Goldsmiths College, London.
For over 30 years he taught Art and Design in South Ayrshire, and is still actively involved in teaching classes in portraiture and life drawing in Troon, along with being involved with local art clubs there, and in Ayr.
During his time in London, he produced portraits of artist Patrick Reyntiens O.B.E., and Nick Ashley (of Laura Ashley).
He has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the Amy Sadur Friedlander Prize, Travelling Scholarship; Miller Award (Paisley Art Institute) and the Edinburgh Printmakers Award (Royal Scottish Academy).
After a very brief stint of attending the Glasgow Print Studio in the early 1980s, it was not until he retired, that he was able to take up membership, and renew his long held interest in printmaking.
At present he works solely with monotypes, but wants to extend his interest further into other printmaking fields, such as etching, woodcut and lithography.
Johnstone has an open attitude to subject matter, and likes to be free to explore any theme, inspired via personal interests, experience and reading, along with media-fed ideas.
This particular exhibition demonstrates diversity, with Pugilism, Wildlife, Icons, Space, Family Roots and Faith imagery on display.
